Breaking: Buhari Meets Chairmanship Aspirants In Aso Villa Tonight

March 23, 2022
After Buhari's Promise

As stronger opposition  mounts against Senator Abdullahi Adamu, President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice for the position of All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, the President has summoned all aspirants to Aso Villa for a consensus meeting at 8pm on Wednesday.

Prime Business Africa exclusively reports that  the North Central zone will retain the chairmanship position as previously zoned as consensus list  will emerge for all  other national positions in the build up to the March 26 National Convention.

At least, six aspirants have collected forms for the chairmanship position. Except former Zamfara Governor, Abdulaziz  Yari from the Northwest,  all others are from the North Central Zone to which the position has been zoned by the ruling party.

Meanwhile, crises of interest and endorsements have continued  to trail the party’s zoning arrangement as regions, especially Southwest and South South,  tend to disagree on choice of candidates, even as the APC insists on consensus.

Investigation by Prime Business Africa confirmed that the position of Senator Adamu who had earlier been endorsed by the President and the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) is ”now shaky” as high-ranking powers within the Buhari Presidency and  the majority of the governors are now up in arms against his candidacy, potentially forcing a new consensus tonight.

Recall that  all North Central governors (five of them) under the APC  and all but three Progressive Governors across the country had endorsed  the Senator and former two-term governor of Nasarawa State Abdullahi  Adamu  for the position. He subsequently met with the governors and threw banters.

But this newspaper first reported that high-ranking Minister  and close confidant of President Buhari had gone to London to meet with Mr President, who at the time was on medical vacation,  to protest his choice of Senator Adamu as APC chairman.

”If the president is able to convince his friends and the governors on his choice of Senator Adamu here in Abuja tonight,” then so be it. But, if not, my brother I guarantee that  a new name will be endorsed tonight after the 8pm meeting,” another reliable source privy to the entire plan told Prime Business Africa on Wednesday morning.

  1. Let’s wait and see the outcome of the consensus, though, I don’t think Adamu will be removed since he the choice of the president.
