World Loses First-class Professional Accountant, George Onekhena

EDO STATE-BORN first-class chartered accountant, Mr George Onekhena FCA has passed on.

Announcing his death, Mr Roland Otaru, SAN,  President of the Executive Council and Board of Trustees of Ikpomaza Old Students Association, said Onekhena who was born in 1956, died on  January 4,  2022.

Mr. Onekhena was the Chief Executive Officer, Crown Height Consulting Services, based in Mooresville, North Carolina, United States of America.

He was a Fellow of the  Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria  (ICAN). The Fellowship of ICAN is the highest rank a member can attain in his/her career as a professional Chartered Accountant.

Mr. Otaru said: “May God give all of us and his family the fortitude to bear this painful and irreplaceable loss.”
“He was very cerebral and won a lot of garlands and accolades,” he added.

Describing how he died, his younger sister, Alhaja Justina Khadijah Nana Ali said: “George was said to have fallen asleep & went home to eternity on the 4th of January 2022.”

The deceased George Onekhena recently lost his very loving mother who was a leading fashion designer (then known as tailor) in Afenmai, Edo State!

He has travelled around the globe starting in his serene village – Okphekphe the same as Mr. John Momoh, Executive Chairman, Channels Media Group;
Auchi Sacred Kingdom where he lived most of his life, Benin City, Kaduna, Kano and Lagos, Abuja and cities around the world.

Onekhena made many impressive records among which are: First Class, Ikpomaza Grammar School, Okpella, University of Benin, Benin City, Business Administration with bias for Insurance, Second Class Upper Division, 1978. Top of his class. He broke many records in professional examinations.

He was a sharp shooting professional and a first class material in anything he did. His career trajectory was CEO, Crown Height Consulting Services, 2019; Deputy Commissioner, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Abuja; Non-Executive Director Financial Reporting Council (FRC); Managing Partner, George Andrews; Lion of Africa Insurance Company Limited, Executive Director Finance.

Mr. Onekhena was a hard working person and social networker!

Describing the news of his sudden demise, the corporate communications unit of National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) wrote, “It came like a thunderbolt in the wind to hear that the Nigerian insurance industry and the financial services sector have lost one of the prominent stars in its galaxy.”
