Speaking at a sensitisation programme organized by the institute, Jidenma said “We are making efforts to professionalise directorship in the country, so that we are rest assured that whoever you are picking from our institute has what it takes, in terms of knowledge, in terms of expertise, in terms of experience and in terms of ethical standing.”

The Institute of Directors (IoD) is a professional institute with members which promotes directors and develops corporate governance, working with various stakeholders, the IoD campaigns on issues of importance to its members and the wider business community to build an environment in Nigeria that supports company directors.

According to the IoD President, “we’ve made quality improvement over time but there is still more to be done, the institute has done a lot in terms of advocacy for people to know the value of corporate governance because when you talk about it people think you are just talking in vacuum now they are becoming aware.

“Young entrepreneurs are being registered as directors, now they have realized that they need to put governance structure in place for the sustainability of their businesses.

IoD Nigeria aims to safeguard the integrity and status of directorship as a profession by serving as the professional body for directors and through the provision of a professional designation which serves to assess and credit mastery; IoD has over 85,000 members all over the world
