The Federal Government had announced that only students in SS3, should be allowed to sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO), or National Business and Technical Examinations Board(NABTEB),

This was revealed in a circular issued by the Federal Ministry of Education to principals of Federal schools.

The Federal Government which warned that any SS1 or SS2 student who applies for any of the aforementioned exams will be expelled noted that this development was put in place to boost the standard of education in the country’s academic system and return sanity among students.

The circular which was distributed to schools, read, “the ministry’s attention has been drawn to the flagrant disregard to its directive on (the) writing of external examinations such as NABTEB (NTC and NBC), WASSCE, NECO (SSCE) by SS1 and SS2 students.

“Students who are involved in the practice find it difficult to settle down on serious studies. They become unruly and distract other students from achieving their goals.

In the circular, the government also advised the principals to inform parents and guardians, because the act will no longer be inexcusable.
