Lagos PDP Lauds Senate’s Refusal To Approve Onochie’s Nomination

The Lagos Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has applauded the Senate for refusing to approve the appointment of President Buhari’s nominee, Lauretta Onochie as National Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Prime Business Africa reported that the Senate rejected Onochie’s nomination for not satisfying the provisions of the Federal Character Principles.

The opposition party said the nomination is an insult to Nigerians and the Senate has done well by refusing to approve Onochie’s nomination.

Commenting on this development, a former PDP Senatorial candidate in Lagos State, Otunba Segun Adewale also known as Aeroland, said there are so many women in Nigeria that can play that role perfectly well.

Maintaining that everyone knows Onochie as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adewale said the APC knows they’ve lost the 2023 elections and that’s why they are trying to appoint their members into some positions.

The Politician alleged that the plan is not to count any election result but to just announce the winner, which is why somebody like Onochie is needed in the INEC to achieve the goal of the party.

“If I am nominated into such a position, there are no two ways about it, I am going to be biased towards my party, not to now talk of someone who works as the Special Adviser to the President,” Adewale said.

He advised that anybody that lacks the peoples trust and whom the people don’t have affection towards should not be made an umpire or appointed into INEC to avoid rubbishing the integrity of the commission.

Another PDP chieftain in Lagos, Taiwo Kuye said that Onochie’s nomination as INEC Commissioner is unconstitutional and the Senate has done well by not giving it their approval.

“One thing we need to understand with this government, however, is that whether Senate choses to approve or not she might just still serve as INEC commissioner to everybody’s surprise. At least, we have seen the case of Ibrahim Magu, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s boss who served his full term even without been approved by the Senate,” Kuye said.

He continued, “We cannot afford to allow our elections be rigged again, we have seen what they have to offer to Nigerians and it is nothing short of bad governance, poor economy or a retrogressing economy if you will like to put it that way.

“Nigeria has never had it this bad from any government and I am wondering what is happening. I know Buhari has his flaws but what I am seeing is making me wonder, who is really ruling Nigeria?”

Recall that yesterday, one of the PDP governors, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State had said that the appointment of Lauretta Onochie who is currently serving as the Special Adviser to the President on new media, shows that APC intends to rig the forthcoming 2023 general election in a grand style.

“Despite the floods of protest against her nomination and the general lack of trust in her capacity to remain impartial, it seems the APC-led Senate is determined to confirm her appointment as part of their grand design to rig the 2023 general elections well ahead of time,” Wike had claimed.
