His opponent in the election, Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Ike Cubana of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had filed a petition challenging his victory at the poll.

All grounds of the petition filed by Iyiegbu were dismissed for lack of merit.

Hon. Okonkwo, who hails from Ojoto a town in Idemil South Local Government Area in Anambra State, defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) two-time incumbent, Obinna Chidoka from Obosi and the APGA’s Iyiegbu in the epic contest.

Upon receiving the news of his victory at the polls on February 25, Hon. Okonkwo promised to fulfill his campaign promises and offer the people effective representation.
