Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri sparked a debate by contrasting the leadership of former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi with that of the Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos State, proclaiming the latter’s administration as superior.

Omokri stated, “The Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos State has more achievements in governance than Peter Obi.”

He emphasized the construction of schools under the Eti-Osa Local Government Chairman’s tenure, challenging Obi’s supporters to name one school built by Obi during his eight years as governor.

“I am giving a challenge. I will give any (Obidient) $10,000 if they can name one school that Peter Obi started, completed, and commissioned while he was governor,” Omokri declared.

Omokri, who played a role in recommending Obi as a running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election, expressed disappointment that Obi didn’t heed his advice to pursue the vice presidency, asserting it was the best path to the presidency for him.

Despite his efforts to influence Obi’s political trajectory, Omokri lamented, “He didn’t listen to me.”

Omokri also predicted Obi’s slim chances in the 2023 presidential election, asserting, “If you hold the presidential election 10 times, Peter Obi is still not going to win.”

Obi contested in the 2023 election as the Labour Party’s candidate, ultimately losing to Bola Tinubu.

Responding to criticisms about commenting on Nigeria’s economic challenges while living abroad, Omokri defended himself, stating, “I’m an employer of labour in Nigeria,” inviting critics to verify his status at the Corporate Affairs Commission.

The discourse stirred by Omokri’s remarks brings attention to local governance achievements and raises questions about political strategies and leadership perceptions.
