Benue May Follow Lagos, Rivers On VAT – Ortom

September 11, 2021

GOVERNOR Samuel Orton of Benue says the state may follow the path of Rivers and Lagos states concerning taking over collection of Value Added Tax (VAT), currently being done by Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

He pointed out that he has directed the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in the state to study the law and inform him of the implication or otherwise of it.

In his words, “I have asked the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to study the law and let me know its implications. I don’t think there is anything wrong in embracing the law as long as it conforms with the constitution, whether it affects states positively or negatively.”

The Governor commended Rivers and Lagos States governors for the step they have taken by domesticating the VAT law.
