FUTMINNA, German Firm Partner On Financial Training For Entrepreneurs

The scheme Targets successful training of 50,000 Entrepreneurs in 12 Months

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT, Minna) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) have concluded arrangements to organise free online financial literacy training, a skill acquisition programme for young entrepreneurs in the Nigeria.

It is a digital financial empowerment scheme to support young entrepreneurs in making faster business decisions and also ensure that business owners are fully in control of their businesses
The training will be organised through the SMEsabi platform (www.smesabi.com).

The programme was unveiled recently during the maiden meeting of the SEsabi team held which at the Centre for Open Distance & e-Learning (CODeL), Federal University of Technology, Minna, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano, Niger State.

At the meeting, the Project Manager, SMEsabi, Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu disclosed that Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of a strong economy that creates jobs for millions of people across the globe, adding that the SMEsabi platform would provide entrepreneurs with the high-level financial knowledge needed to strive in a 21st-century business environment.

Aibinu said, “They are a crucial building block for economic growth and prosperity because of their capacity for innovation and ability to adapt to an ever-changing business environment.
“As a result, the project would empower 50,000 Nigerians with financial literacy knowledge capable of assisting individuals and MSMEs in managing money, making smarter business decisions, and managing their business better in line with global best practices.”

According to him, “Additional organizations with a large network of members will be on boarded by the team, who will go through the available financial literacy and entrepreneurial courses designed by professionals to increase entrepreneurs’ business profiles for national and global visibility.”

Commenting on the scheme, the Director, Entrepreneurship Centre, FUTMinna, Dr. Caroline Alenoghena said the SMEsabi is an e-Learning platform that brings entrepreneurship and financial literacy knowledge directly to its users, adding that business owners would stand out from their competitors by making smarter financial decisions through a series of online courses packaged for them.

Equally important, Dr. Alenoghena stated was that the SMEsabi platform would enable entrepreneurs to build the necessary capacity required for business and financial skills improvement in the post-Covid-19 era.

In her remarks, the Project Manager GIZ, Miss. Jennifer Seydel enumerated some of the benefits associated with the SMEsabi project while noting that the project would empower Nigerians with financial literacy skills.

The event also witnessed the unveiling of the SMEsabi Secretariat and tour of the University’s Entrepreneurship Centre.

The project is expected to last for one year.
