2023: Nwajiuba Bows Out As Buhari Orders Cabinet Members With Political Ambition To Resign

Following the directive by President Muhammadu Buhari that members of the federal executive council with intention to contest election in 2023 should resign, the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has relinquished his position to pursue his interest in the presidency.

Mr. Nwajiuba recently joined the presidential race under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC). A group identified as Project Nigeria, reportedly procured the N100 million Expression of Interest and nomination forms for the junior minister to contest for the APC ticket.

Nwajiuba is one of the presidential aspirants in the Federal Executive Council.

Other members of the cabinet expected to resign are former governor of Akwa Ibom State and minister of Niger Delta Affiars, Godswill Akpabio, minister of labour, Dr. Chris Ngige, minister of science and technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi,  Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and minister of mines, Uche Ogar, minister of state petroleum, Timipre Sylva, and women affairs minister Pauline Tallen.

Malami is running for office of Kebbi State governor, while Ogar is running for governor of Abia.

Buhari’s order for the affected cabinet members to submit their resignation letters was disclosed on Wednesday by the Minister of information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.
