Tinubu Posts 65 New Ambassadors, Including to UN

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to foreign missions and the United Nations, the presidency announced Friday.

The appointments include 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career envoys, all of whom were confirmed by the Senate last December.

Among the non-career appointees are former lawmakers, public officials, and notable figures such as Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, and former presidential aide Reno Omokri to Mexico. Other postings include Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, Yakubu N. Gambo to Saudi Arabia, and Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the UN.

Career diplomats will take up positions in countries across Africa, Europe, and Asia, including Ambassadors to Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, India, and Iran, as well as to the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément for some envoys, including Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu to the United Kingdom and Ambassador Ayo Oke to France. Agréments for the remaining ambassadors have been requested from their respective host countries in line with diplomatic protocols.

President Tinubu has instructed the Foreign Ministry to immediately begin induction programmes for the new ambassadors and high commissioners.
