Supporters Push Tinubu’s “Three-Year Gains” in Education, Economy

March 14, 2026

As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration approaches its three-year milestone since May 29, 2023, pro-government voices on X have launched a coordinated campaign celebrating claimed achievements in education reforms, framing them as closely linked to broader economic stabilisation.

Under the hashtag #TinubuGains, dozens of accounts—including verified pro-APC handles, influencers, and ordinary users—have shared identical or sequential graphics featuring a cartoon of Tinubu alongside a “THE SHIELDS” logo, likely associated with a pro-government media or advocacy group. Central to the messaging are quotes from educationist Elder James Oghogho, portraying the administration’s efforts as laying “the groundwork for a more resilient education system… capable of supporting Nigeria’s long-term ambition to build a knowledge-driven economy.”

The campaign emphasises initiatives such as the National Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), launched in early 2025, which is credited with reintegrating out-of-school children, training Tsangaya teachers, boosting technical and vocational education enrolment, upgrading technical colleges with digital monitoring systems, and introducing curriculum reforms that integrate digital literacy and entrepreneurship.

LUMINAH 2030, launched in March 2025, is highlighted as a programme aiming to empower over one million underserved girls and women by 2030 through accelerated learning, secondary and vocational pathways, and economic opportunities. Supporters also reference the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund, which provides interest-free loans to university, polytechnic, and college staff, and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), noting billions disbursed to students, zero ASUU strikes since 2023, and a 40 percent salary increase for lecturers.

The education messaging is explicitly linked to economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, naira unification, and tax reforms, with supporters claiming that macroeconomic stabilisation enabled increased funding for education while delivering broader gains, such as rising foreign reserves, lower inflation, GDP growth above four percent, and higher state allocations.

The surge in X activity also coincides with the launch of Working People United (WPU) in Abuja earlier this month. The grassroots movement, led by National Coordinator Williams Eniredonana Akporeha, seeks to mobilise workers, traders, farmers, and professionals across formal and informal sectors, highlight ongoing reforms, advocate for policy implementation, and implicitly support the continuation of Tinubu’s agenda ahead of the 2027 elections. Leaders of the movement praised the administration’s “bold reforms” and called for unity against “misinformation,” effectively providing an organisational backbone for the #TinubuGains campaign.

While engagement per post remains modest, the repetition of graphics and Elder Oghogho quotes across numerous accounts indicates a coordinated effort. Earlier posts from January and February 2026 similarly celebrated three years of governance, claiming economic recovery, ending university disruptions, and restoring Nigeria’s global standing. Critics, however, argue that the reforms have imposed immediate hardships, citing higher fuel and foreign exchange costs and reports of rising poverty, with some estimates reaching 63 percent. Supporters counter that 2026 is a “consolidation year” during which the benefits of reform will materialise.

Overall, today’s trend is not an official government announcement but a supporter-driven effort to frame Tinubu’s education and economic policies positively at the three-year mark. The campaign demonstrates how polished digital content, coordinated posting, and grassroots movements can amplify political narratives, offering insight into both the administration’s messaging strategy and the contested public perception of its achievements.
