6 Key Details Police Have Revealed About the Lagos Monarch’s Son’s Death

March 10, 2026

The killing of Prince Ademola Akinloye, popularly known as Demola, shocked residents of Lekki and surrounding communities in Lagos. Prince Ademola was the 50-year-old first son of Oba Tijani Akinloye, the traditional ruler of Agungi in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on August 26, 2024, and has remained under investigation by the Lagos State Police Command. Police authorities say the killing appears to be a targeted attack possibly linked to disputes within the community.

As of March 2026, the investigation is still ongoing, with several suspects already arrested while a key suspect remains on the run. Here are six major details police have disclosed about the case.

1. How and Where the Attack Happened

Police confirmed that Prince Ademola Akinloye was attacked on August 26, 2024, along Chevron Drive near Ebeano Supermarket in the Agungi area of Lekki.

According to investigators, the prince was driving a black Toyota Corolla near the gate of Bourdilon Court Estate when four armed men in a white minibus ambushed him. The attackers shot and stabbed him during the assault.

After the attack, police officers who arrived at the scene recovered an expanded cartridge as part of the initial evidence.

2. Immediate Police Response

Following the discovery of the body, police authorities moved the victim to a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Panti in Yaba for a more detailed investigation. The transfer signalled that the police were treating the killing as a high-profile homicide.

3. Possible Link to an Earlier Killing

During the investigation, detectives discovered a possible connection between Prince Akinloye’s death and another killing.

Police believe some suspects linked to the attack may also have been involved in the murder of Sheriff Salami on April 18, 2023, in the Moba community in Ajah. Both areas fall within the Ojomu traditional domain.

Investigators suspect the two cases may be connected to disputes within the community, including disagreements over land matters.

4. Initial Arrest of Nine Suspects

Through intelligence gathering and targeted enquiries, the police initially arrested nine suspects.

Two of the suspects were arrested about a week before February 10, 2026, while seven others were detained on the same date by the command’s tactical team.

Police said the arrests followed renewed investigative efforts aimed at uncovering those responsible for the killing.

5. Additional Arrests and Confessional Statements

According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, additional suspects have been arrested since the initial nine were detained.

Police say some of those arrested have provided voluntary confessional statements explaining their roles in the attack. These statements are helping investigators reconstruct how the killing was planned and carried out.

6. Prime Suspect Still on the Run

Despite the arrests, police say the alleged mastermind of the killing is still at large.

The suspect, identified as Ahmad Akanbi, has been declared wanted by the police for his alleged involvement in the murder. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest him.

Police have also assured the public that once investigations are concluded, all suspects connected to the case will be charged in court to ensure justice for the slain prince.
