Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has approved the construction and dualisation of the 3-3 Nsugbe road to Aguleri at a cost of N15.9bn.

The project, which includes a span bridge, was awarded to Ferotex Construction Company Limited.

The state government says it is expected to ease traffic congestion around the busy Onitsha and Nkwelle axis and open up the corridor for economic growth.

The approval was given at the first Anambra State Executive Council meeting of 2026, held at the Government House in Awka.

The council also directed the Ministry of Environment and the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade) to begin enforcing road setback regulations along newly constructed dual carriageways.

Under the new rules, buildings must be set back by at least 1.5 metres in built-up areas and three metres in other locations, measured from drainage lines.

Officials say the policy is designed to protect road infrastructure and provide space for pedestrians and other non-motorised road users.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, said the standards were in line with global best practice.

“These standards include provisions for pedestrian walkways and other safety features on our roads,” he said.

The council also approved the creation of a committee to further improve Nnewi under the state’s urban regeneration policy, starting with Nnobi, as part of efforts to revitalise the two major urban centres.

In addition, the state government approved funding for several other projects, including N56.4m for the supply and installation of a 500 kVA transformer in Irueyim community, Nteje, awarded to Kennolly Enterprises.

It also approved N159.6m for solar street lighting along Oye Market Road in Isuofia, awarded to Vigeo-Dome Limited, and N497m for erosion control and remediation works at Umugama-Ire village in Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area, awarded to P & K International Limited.
