NDC Demands Gbajabiamila’s Sack Over PFIPC Scandal, Seeks Independent Probe

July 3, 2026

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate removal of the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to the controversy surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prime Business Africa reports.

The opposition party said Gbajabiamila’s continued stay in office could compromise any investigation into the allegations, insisting that only an independent probe would restore public confidence in the government’s commitment to accountability.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC described the allegations surrounding the alleged agency as a serious test of transparency and institutional integrity under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

PFIPC Controversy: Adeyemi Insists on Court Vindication Amid Presidency’s Fraud Allegations

The party’s demand comes amid the ongoing controversy involving Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to have served as Director-General of the PFIPC an agency the Presidency has consistently maintained does not exist.

According to the NDC, Adeyemi alleged that the purported agency received budgetary allocations in the 2026 Appropriation Act and operated multiple accounts, including domiciliary, pound sterling and Treasury Single Account (TSA) accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The party questioned how an agency disowned by the Presidency could allegedly receive budgetary allocations, open official financial accounts and carry out government transactions without the knowledge of relevant authorities.

It also expressed concern over claims that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation approved 314 staff positions for the alleged agency, arguing that such approvals, if true, would expose significant lapses in the country’s administrative and oversight systems.

The NDC further cited Adeyemi’s allegation that he secured his appointment through Gbajabiamila after allegedly paying N600 million through intermediaries. It also referenced his claim that the Chief of Staff demanded 48 per cent of the agency’s take-off grant allegations the party said warrant an independent investigation.

The opposition party also raised concerns over the death of Babatunde Tanimola, identified as an intermediary in the matter, who reportedly died in a fire incident at a hotel in Utako, Abuja, in October 2025. It further referenced Adeyemi’s claims that he survived multiple assassination attempts and urged the government to provide him with witness protection pending the outcome of investigations.

PFIPC Controversy: Dalung Faults Presidency’s Response, Demands Answers on Budget, Official Processes

To address the controversy, the NDC urged President Tinubu to constitute an independent investigative panel to examine all aspects of the alleged scandal, including the operations of the PFIPC, its purported budgetary allocations, account openings, staff approvals and financial transactions.

It also called for the questioning of officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service over their alleged roles in the matter.

In addition, the party urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Nigeria Police Force to commence comprehensive investigations into the allegations.

The NDC maintained that the controversy has heightened public concern over accountability within government and said a transparent investigation would be necessary to establish the facts, reassure Nigerians and preserve confidence in public institutions.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor Gbajabiamila had responded to the NDC’s latest statement.
