President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has flagged off the rehabilitation of the Sharram-Garram-Babban Lamba Road in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, in a move expected to boost rural connectivity, ease the movement of agricultural produce and stimulate economic activities across the area, Prime Business Africa reports.
The ceremony was performed on the President’s behalf by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Senator Simon Bako Lalong and other government officials were in attendance.
The road project forms part of the Federal Government’s infrastructure renewal drive under the Renewed Hope Agenda and is expected to improve access to markets, healthcare and other essential services for residents of Kanke and neighbouring communities.

Speaking at the event, Senator Lalong, who represents Plateau South Senatorial District, described the project as another demonstration of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to closing Nigeria’s infrastructure gap through sustained investment in strategic road projects.
He said the rehabilitation would not only ease transportation but also facilitate commerce, enhance access to essential services and unlock new economic opportunities for rural communities.
Lalong noted that Plateau State has continued to benefit from federal infrastructure interventions, expressing appreciation to President Tinubu for prioritising projects that address the state’s development needs.
He also commended the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, for what he described as his dedication to implementing the administration’s infrastructure agenda. He recalled the ministry’s swift reconstruction of the Shendam Total Bridge after it was washed away by floods in 2023, saying the intervention restored connectivity and revived economic activities in the affected communities.
According to the former Plateau governor, the administration’s investments in infrastructure and other sectors are beginning to yield tangible benefits for citizens, adding that such projects would further strengthen public confidence in the Federal Government.
Lalong urged residents of the benefiting communities to cooperate with contractors and protect project facilities to ensure the road is completed on schedule and delivers lasting benefits.

Once completed, the road is expected to significantly improve mobility, reduce travel time, strengthen agricultural value chains and expand commercial opportunities for communities across Kanke Local Government Area and its environs, underscoring the Federal Government’s broader push to use infrastructure as a catalyst for economic development.
