DSS Arrests Suspect Over Alleged Attack on Obi

March 2, 2026

Department of State Services (DSS), has arrested a 26-year-old suspect, Udeme Sunday Stephen, over an alleged attack on former presidential candidate Peter Obi and members of the African Democratic Congress in Benin City, Edo State.

The incident occurred last Tuesday at the residence of a party chieftain, John Odigie-Oyegun, shortly after Obi and his associates returned from the ADC secretariat, where they had formally received Olumide Akpata into the party, according to Yunusa Tanko, coordinator of the Obidient Movement.

Security sources said the suspect was identified following a social media post in which he allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack and issued further threats against Obi. Operatives subsequently launched a covert investigation, using forensic analysis to track him down.
