UNN Governing Council Moves To Appoint Another Acting VC Just 2 Months After Ezeokonkwo’s Election

Prof. Romanus Ezeokonkwo has been elected acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

Prof. Ezeokonkwo, who was the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, won the   election conducted during the 422nd session of the Senate in Nsukka, on Friday.

According to a statement released by UNN Public Relations Officer, Chief Okwun Omeaku, Prof. Ezeokonkwo scored 200 votes, defeating other contenders – Prof. Johnson Urama (DVC Academics, UNN), who polled 180 votes; and Prof. Daniel Nwachukwu (DVC University of Nigeria Enugu Campus UNEC), who got 25 votes.

“Ezeokonkwo scored 200 votes to defeat Urama and Nwachukwu who scored 180 and 25 votes respectively,” the PRO stated.

The election followed the expiration of the tenure of Prof. Charles Arizechukwu Igwe, who was the 15th Vice Chancellor of the University.

Prof. Igwe had been the Vice Chancellor since June 2019 when he took over from Prof. Benjamin Ozumba.

Ezeokonkwo is a Professor of Veterinary Parasitology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UNN.

Born on 7 August 1965 in Nkpologwu, Aguata LGA of Anambra State, Nigeria, Ezeokonkwo obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1990. He subsequently bagged Master of Science (MSc) in 1997 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2009 from UNN.

He is a Fellow of the Postgraduate College of Veterinary Surgeons, Nigeria (FCVSN) (2010).
