Understanding The Meaning Of True Wealth

The only way to understand the true purpose of life is to ponder on happenings in the life of others as a pointer to what the end looks like, says the parish priest of St. Ann Catholic Church, Ndiagu Amechi Enugu, Rev. Fr. Arinzechukwu.

The priest made the assertion during his homely titled “Who will inherit that wealth”, at St. Ann’s out-station located at Mary Land Estate, Enugu on Sunday July 31.

According to him, one ought to ask himself such questions like: what are God’s purpose for creating man? After life on Earth what next? One should also consider the powerful men on earth, how they have lived their life, and what they have made out of life, their wealth, wives and children. Do they die along with those things?

Citing Ecclesiastes chapter one, verse two, chapter two verses 21 to 23, the Rev. Fr. Arinzechukwu stated that life is useless. “You work for something with all your wisdom, Knowledge and skills and then you have to leave it for others. Long as you live, everything brings you worry and headache. Vanity upon vanity.

“God created us in his own image and likeness, to know him, love and serve him. It means that since we are created by God, we are for God. Therefore we should be doing as it pleases God. It is about living for him and doing his will. The only blessing man has got on earth is God. We rely on him because he is our root.” he stated.

“The issue is that we have left God for the things that doesn’t worth it. The only thing that separates us from God is riches, as the questions are always: How would I make it in life? How will I be rich? God is never against being rich, but the problem is that our wealth starts with us and end with us. After acquiring riches, who would inherit them? God has charged us to love one another and care for the poor. God has given you those riches for you to help the poor, but know you are too selfish to do that. You should know that you are going nowhere with riches of this earth, thus at the end those you do not expect would inherit them (wealth).”

The priest further cited the book of Colossians chapter three verses one to five which states: If you are raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of the earth. Put to death then the parts of you that are earthly: fornication, evil desire, greed and adultery.

“Our question should always be: after all the struggles of life, what next? It is not about being rich; it is about what you do with your riches. By loving and caring for others with your riches, you are preparing your soul for eternal life. This is what Jesus Christ want from you.

Until you realize that your soul is more important than riches, you will take care of your soul. Arrange it, prepare it , clean it as though you are taking care of your house”

“ Not more than a shadow, all they do is for nothing, they gather wealth, but don’t know who will get it. (Psalm 39 verse six) teach us how short our life is, so that we may become wise (Psalm 90 verse 12).
