IGET Academy has announced that Nigerian political economist Kingsley Moghalu will participate as a panelist at the 17th Global Empowerment Meeting (GEM26), hosted by the Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for International Development.
The event, scheduled for May 4–5, 2026, will bring together global policymakers, academics, and development practitioners to examine new approaches to international development amid shifting geopolitical realities and tightening resource constraints.
Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is expected to speak on Panel 2 titled “Doing Development Differently,” slated for May 5. The session forms part of the broader conference theme, “Reimagining International Development,” which seeks to explore innovative strategies for growth, equity, and sustainability in an increasingly fragmented global economy.

According to CID leadership, Moghalu’s work in economic governance, institutional capacity-building, and policy innovation across Africa positions him as a valuable contributor to the discussions.
In a statement, CID Faculty Director Asim Ijaz Khwaja and Executive Director Fatema Z. Sumar noted that his experience in central banking, international policy, and leadership development has helped shape conversations on Africa’s evolving role in the global economy.
Responding to the invitation, Moghalu said the forum presents an opportunity to advance practical and context-driven solutions to development challenges, particularly for African countries. He added that the discussions could influence policy directions with long-term implications for emerging economies.
GEM26 will feature a lineup of prominent global figures, including Jeremy Weinstein, Dani Rodrik, James A. Robinson, Esther Duflo, and Raghuram Rajan, alongside policy leaders such as Samantha Power and Rachel Glennerster.

Organisers said the meeting will build on CID’s tradition of promoting evidence-based dialogue aimed at translating ideas into actionable development outcomes. Portions of the event are expected to be live-streamed.
