Fidelity Bank Plc has partnered with the Anambra State Government to provide economic and educational support to 1,950 women, schoolchildren and vulnerable households, in a move aimed at easing financial pressures on families and expanding opportunities for entrepreneurship and learning, Prime Business Africa reports.
The intervention, implemented under the 2026 Fidelity Empowerment Programme in Awka, delivered 200 sewing and grinding machines to women entrepreneurs, N25 million in seed capital grants, 1,500 food packs to vulnerable households and 250 solar-powered school bags to pupils.
The programme was carried out in partnership with Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, a non-governmental organisation founded by the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, said the initiative reflects the lender’s commitment to promoting economic inclusion and supporting communities through practical interventions that improve livelihoods.
She said the programme marks the first time three of the bank’s flagship social impact initiatives, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, the Lighting Young Minds Programme and the Give Her Power Initiative have been deployed through a single intervention platform, with Anambra State selected as the first beneficiary.
According to Onyeali-Ikpe, the combined intervention was designed to address immediate social needs while creating pathways for long-term economic empowerment.
“Today is more than an empowerment event; it is a demonstration of our belief that meaningful progress begins when people are given the tools and opportunities to succeed. At Fidelity Bank, our purpose goes beyond banking. We are committed to helping individuals realise their aspirations, overcome challenges and build better lives,” she said.
She noted that the food distribution component would provide relief for vulnerable households facing economic hardship, while the vocational tools and seed capital support would help beneficiaries establish or expand small businesses, potentially creating additional sources of income for families.
The bank’s chief executive added that the solar-powered school bags would support learning among pupils, particularly those in communities with limited electricity access, by enabling them to study after sunset.

The intervention comes as governments, businesses and development organisations increasingly seek collaborative approaches to tackling poverty, improving educational outcomes and strengthening economic resilience among vulnerable groups.
In her remarks, Dr. Nonye Soludo described the programme as an investment in human capital and community development, commending Fidelity Bank for supporting initiatives that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens.
“We gather today not merely to distribute items or celebrate another social impact initiative, but to reaffirm a simple truth: when we invest in people, we invest in the future. Every woman supported, every child empowered and every family assisted represents a step towards building a stronger, healthier and more prosperous Anambra State,” she said.
She added that beyond the empowerment items distributed, the initiative would contribute to family stability, women’s economic participation and improved educational opportunities for children.
The Fidelity Empowerment Programme is part of the bank’s broader corporate social responsibility agenda, which focuses on education, economic empowerment, food security, health and community development across Nigeria.
For beneficiaries, the intervention provides more than immediate assistance.
