The family of Abdulsamad Jamiu, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member killed in Dei-Dei, Abuja, has intensified calls for accountability following a visit by senior officials of the Nigerian Army, Prime Business Africa reports.
In an update issued on Monday, the family said representatives from the Army’s Headquarters, led by Brigadier S. O. Buhari, visited their residence on April 27 to offer condolences and assess the scene of the incident.
According to the family, the Army delegation acknowledged gaps in its earlier account, stating during the visit that they were unaware the house was fenced and that the room where the shooting occurred was located downstairs. The family argued that this contradicts the military’s initial claim that Jamiu’s death resulted from a “stray bullet” during a gunfight.

The delegation reportedly assured the family that the officers involved in the incident would be investigated and held accountable.
Jamiu, a 24-year-old corps member serving under the National Youth Service Corps, was killed in the early hours of April 25 at his residence in Shagari Estate, Dei-Dei. While the Army had maintained that he was caught in crossfire during an exchange with armed robbers, his family insists he was shot inside his room.

In the latest development, the family said it has formally demanded a retraction of the Army’s initial statement and a public apology, describing the earlier account as misleading and disrespectful to the deceased.

Although the delegation reportedly indicated that the statement might be withdrawn, the family expressed doubts over the military’s credibility, noting that some personnel had visited the scene prior to the release of the disputed statement.
“We reiterate our demand that those responsible… be brought to justice,” the family said, maintaining that the killing was not accidental but occurred after soldiers entered the premises and fired into Jamiu’s room.
The case has continued to draw public attention, with mounting pressure on authorities to ensure a transparent investigation amid conflicting narratives over the circumstances of the killing.
