Senate Confirms Nomination Of Service Chiefs

The Nigeria Senate has confirmed the nomination of service chiefs and heads of security agencies newly appointed by President Bola Tinubu.

The confirmation followed the screening of the service chiefs by the red chamber on Thursday.

Recall that President had last month appointed new service chiefs while their predecessors went on compulsory retirement.

Subsequently, President Tinubu on Monday, wrote to the Senate requesting the confirmation of the service chiefs.

The upper chamber upon resumption of plenary on Thursday, began the screening of the military top brass, with each of them coming up to speak on how they will tackle insecurity in the country if confirmed.

The Senate President Godswill Akpabio said that during the closed-door session, the service chiefs answered questions on topical issues relating to defence and national security.

The new service chiefs confirmed are Major General T. A Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff; Major General C.G. Musa, Chief of Defence Staff;  Air Vice Marshal H.B. Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; Rear Admiral E. A. Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff; Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police; and Major General  E.P.A. Undiandeye, Chief of Defense Intelligence.
