Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved the design and procurement of two major road projects expected to improve connectivity across the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions, Prime Business Africa reports.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Soludo said the approvals represented a significant step towards addressing infrastructure deficits in the South-East and advancing regional economic development.

The governor identified the approved projects as the dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road, which extends towards Kogi State, and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, which connects Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt corridor through Abia State.
Soludo said he met with President Tinubu on Wednesday, July 1, where they discussed key infrastructure priorities in the region. He added that the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, subsequently requested details of the roads that had been previously discussed.
According to the governor, he submitted the details of the two projects to the minister on Friday, July 3, and was informed on July 15 that President Tinubu had approved both roads for the design and procurement phase.

Describing the development as a major milestone, Soludo said the projects would serve as critical economic corridors, improving the movement of goods and people while strengthening links between the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions.
He commended President Tinubu and Senator Umahi for what he described as their commitment to infrastructure development, saying the approvals reflected the importance of cooperation between the federal and state governments in delivering projects with long-term economic impact.
The governor added that the projects, when completed, would contribute to regional integration, enhance trade and support broader economic growth across affected states.
The approval marks the commencement of the preliminary process for the projects, with design and procurement activities expected to precede construction.
