Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Monday visited former Imo State Governor and former Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha, at his Maitama residence in Abuja, in a meeting that underscored longstanding political and personal ties between both leaders.
Okorocha hosted the governor and his delegation to a dinner banquet attended by members of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives, senior Abia State government officials and members of the former governor’s family.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Abia State Governor, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, said the visit reflected the cordial relationship between Otti and Okorocha, which predates their involvement in active politics.
Both politicians built careers in the private sector before venturing into politics, with Otti gaining prominence in the banking industry while Okorocha established a business and philanthropic profile through the Rochas Foundation before serving as governor of Imo State.
Members of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives who accompanied the governor included Ginger Onwusibe, Mascot Ikwechegh, Munachim Alozie and Obi Aguocha.
Also present were members of the Abia State Executive Council and other senior government officials, including Hon. Ikechukwu Monday, Hon. Ngozi Felix, Hon. Odinakachi Eric Eme and the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Chinonye Mba Uzoukwu.
The former governor received the delegation alongside members of his family, including his wife, Mrs. Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha, and his daughter, Uju Okorocha, who serves as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Health and Focal Person on Nutrition.
The visit also drew attention because of the political significance of the personalities involved. Otti emerged as one of the leading opposition figures in the South-East before winning the 2023 Abia governorship election on the platform of the Labour Party, while Okorocha remains a notable figure within the All Progressives Congress.
Observers say the meeting reflects the fluid political relationships in the South-East, where personal alliances and regional interests often transcend party lines. The presence of Labour Party federal lawmakers at the dinner has also fueled political interest amid ongoing consultations and engagements among key political actors in the region ahead of future electoral calculations.
The meeting and dinner reception took place at Okorocha’s residence in the Federal Capital Territory.
