The kidnapped pupils and teachers of a school in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity, Prime Business Africa reports.
The release of the victims was announced on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a post on X.
Join our WhatsApp Channel“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors,” Onanuga wrote.
The development comes after weeks of security efforts and public concern over the safety of students and education workers in the area.

According to the Presidency, the successful rescue followed a sustained, intelligence-led operation by security agencies, which resulted in the arrest of eight suspected abductors, while several others were neutralised during the mission.
President Tinubu commended the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their efforts, describing the operation as a significant breakthrough.
The President also vowed that all those responsible for the abduction would be brought to justice, including those linked to the killing of Mr. Oyedokun during the incident.
“My government will get justice for these children and their teachers and for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who the terrorists gruesomely murdered,” Tinubu said.

President Tinubu further commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation throughout the rescue efforts and urged the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar attacks.
He also directed relevant emergency agencies to work with the Oyo State Government to provide the rescued pupils and teachers with immediate medical care, psychosocial support and other relief services to aid their recovery.
The successful rescue marks a major milestone in efforts to tackle school-related kidnappings and offers renewed hope that sustained collaboration between security agencies and state governments can improve the protection of schools and vulnerable communities across the country.
