Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed profound relief following the release of the pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area, describing their freedom after 57 days in captivity as a moment of immense joy for the state, Prime Business Africa reports.
Speaking during a telephone interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Friday, Makinde said the victims’ release brought relief not only to their families but also to the state government and everyone who had anxiously awaited their return.

Makinde commended the security agencies for their coordinated efforts, thanking the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Armed Forces, and other security commanders for their roles in securing the victims’ freedom.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as the President’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the abductees were rescued.
“We will use this opportunity to thank our service commanders, the Nigerian Police, DSS, the military, and, of course, the President for pushing really hard to get this done,” he said.
The governor said the state was overwhelmed with joy following the development, adding that he would provide further details once he had fully processed the emotional significance of the successful rescue.
“We are currently overjoyed. I will give details later when I can put my joy together,” Makinde said.
The release of the abducted pupils and teachers brings to an end a 57-day ordeal that had sparked widespread concern over the security of schools in Oyo State and renewed calls for stronger measures to safeguard educational institutions.
