NDLEA Destroys Warehouses Storing 317 tons Of Cannabis In Edo Forest

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has set ablaze warehouses containing 317.4 metric tons of cannabis inside the Opuje Forest in Edo State.

The Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this on Saturday in a statement shared via the agency’s Twitter handle.

The statement revealed that warehouses and tents storing over 317,417 kilograms (317.4 metric tons) of psychoactive substance were discovered and set ablaze inside the forest.

The drug agency added that a police impersonator, Omoruan Theophilus, 37, who parades as a Police Inspector to convey the drugs from the forests to the cities and three others: Aigberuan Jacob, 42; Ekeinde Anthony Zaza, 53, and Naomi Patience Ohiewere, 42, were arrested in connection with the drugs during the operation.

The law enforcement body further explained that the Opuje community in Owan West Local Government Area, Edo State, is well known for cannabis cultivation.

He stated that the cartel builds warehouses inside the forest where they store their illicit drugs after harvest. From there, they supply their customers in the town. They employ the services of armed youths to guard the warehouses for them.
