Violence erupted in some parts of Delta State on Saturday’s governorship and State Assembly elections as thugs invaded polling units and destroyed voting materials.

At the Evwerni community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, thugs suspected to be working for a former Delta State lawmaker and a Commissioner reportedly invaded a polling unit and destroyed all electoral materials, including some BVAS machines.

Prime Business Africa reports that voting has been disrupted in all the polling units in Evwerni.

A team of journalists monitoring the elections was barred from entering the community by the rampaging thugs allegedly loyal to a serving State Commissioner.

The security personnel sent to the community to ensure peaceful elections has been allegedly compromised as they allegedly supervised the process being disrupted by hoodlums.

Some corps members and other electoral officials working in the community were attacked by the thugs with some sustaining varying degrees of injuries while about three BIVAS machines were destroyed by the angry thugs.
