Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has consolidated the dominance of the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State after the last opposition member in the State House of Assembly defected to the ruling party.
Hon. Yakubu Daniel, who represents Billiri East Constituency and was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, has joined the All Progressives Congress, leaving the state legislature without any opposition presence.
In a statement issued by the governor’s office, the defection was described as part of a broader shift in the political landscape, following earlier moves by other opposition lawmakers, including members of the minority leadership, who had also crossed over to the APC.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelReceiving the lawmaker in Gombe, Yahaya said the development reflected growing support for his administration and the APC’s policies at both the state and national levels. He assured the new entrant of fairness and equal opportunities within the party.
Daniel said his decision was influenced by the governor’s leadership, which he described as transparent and impactful. He pledged loyalty to the APC and said he would work to strengthen the party’s presence in his constituency and across the state.
The governor also linked the party’s expanding influence to public support for the “Renewed Hope” agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Daniel was received at the Government House alongside the Speaker and other members of the Assembly.
