The national chairman of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, as reports intensify over the governor’s possible defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Yilwatda was accompanied by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to the meeting at the Government House in Bauchi. None of the participants spoke to journalists after the talks.
Officials familiar with the meeting said it may be part of efforts by the APC to persuade Mohammed to reconsider a reported plan to join the African Democratic Congress and instead align with the ruling party.

The meeting came a day after Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, hosted a delegation of the ADC led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal.
Speaking after Tuesday’s engagement, Mohammed cited unresolved internal disputes within the PDP as a key factor behind his consideration of leaving the party, saying reconciliation efforts had failed despite attempts at both national and state levels.
He said consultations were ongoing across multiple political platforms, but described the ADC as the most receptive option so far, while noting that no final decision had been reached.

Mohammed also suggested his camp had felt unwelcome within the APC, influencing their inclination toward alternative parties, though he indicated openness to reconsider if circumstances changed.
