The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) said the revocations would take effect within seven days of publication, after which the affected stations would no longer be authorised to provide services under the licences. Resources assigned to the licences would revert to the authority, the notice said.

The notice cited the Kenya Information and Communications Act as the legal basis for the proposed revocations but did not specify the reasons for the action. It referred to the affected authorisations as “postal licences”, although the listed stations hold commercial free-to-air television licences.

The broadcasters named include Holy Spirit’s TV, Greater Life Television, Assemblies of God Kenya Television Network, Bethsaida Television, Madaras TV, Revival Wave TV, Mshindi TV, Mountain of Peace TV, Riigi TV, Ngoyoo TV, Nene TV, WTV, Kim Kim TV and Wendo TV. Others include New Breed Connect TV, Shem TV, Ikengi TV, Thespy TV, Technique View Television and Engako Television Network.

Commercial free-to-air licences allow broadcasters to transmit television content without requiring viewers to pay subscription fees. The proposed revocations would end the affected stations’ authorisation to provide services covered by the licences once the action takes effect.

The Gazette notice also listed voluntary licence surrender requests by two media companies. Landmerc Limited sought to terminate its commercial free-to-air radio licence for Tandaza FM, while Moreplex Television Limited requested the termination of three authorisations associated with Moreplex TV Kenya, covering terrestrial subscription broadcasting, SMS services and landing rights.

The proposed action follows previous enforcement measures by the regulator.

In 2024, the authority revoked 75 broadcasting licences, attributing 66 revocations to non-compliance with licence conditions and nine to voluntary termination requests by operators.

In 2025, the authority also shut down 42 television stations over alleged non-compliance with regulatory requirements, according to sources.

The proposed revocations were expected to take effect around October 16, seven days after publication, subject to the notice’s precise terms.
