The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has condemned the latest killings in Plateau State, describing the attack on Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area as a “barbaric massacre” and accusing the Federal Government of failing to protect innocent citizens.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, the group said no fewer than 13 persons were killed by heavily armed attackers, while several others sustained serious injuries during the assault.
HURIWA described the incident as another sign of worsening insecurity in Plateau State, alleging that armed attackers have continued to invade communities and kill residents without being apprehended or punished.

The rights group criticised President Bola Tinubu over what it called the Federal Government’s “insensitive and weak response” to repeated killings in Plateau communities.
According to the organisation, the continued attacks in Bassa, Barkin Ladi and other parts of the state have exposed serious gaps in Nigeria’s security architecture and deepened public distrust in the government’s ability to safeguard lives and property.
HURIWA also faulted Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, accusing his administration of lacking effective measures to protect vulnerable communities from recurring attacks.
The group further claimed that the failure of security agencies to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of previous attacks has emboldened criminal elements responsible for the violence.

The association called for the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to vulnerable communities across Plateau State, particularly in Bassa and Barkin Ladi local government areas.
It also demanded an independent and transparent investigation into the recurring attacks, with clear timelines for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
HURIWA urged the Federal Government to move beyond routine condemnations after violent incidents and adopt proactive measures aimed at preventing further bloodshed in Plateau State and other troubled parts of the country.
“The blood of innocent Nigerians must not become cheaper than political convenience,” the statement added.
