Residents of countries in Africa and other continents are projected to face displacement if their governments fail to sufficiently invest in green economy by 2050, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report indicates.

The outcome of not investing in green economy will lead to acute health problems, increment in food and water insecurity and other frequent disasters.

The recent war between Ukraine and Russia has drastically affected countries dependent on Ukraine for wheat and corn with more harm on Africa. This therefore calls for speedy intervention of government in finding pathways to improve green recovery.

Fifty countries was said to be leading in green economy as $388 billion of $14.6 trillions (18%) of announced recovery spending was revealed. This was revealed by the Oxford’s Recovery Project and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Some of the countries includes, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Malta, Sweden, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Austria, Ireland, Finland, Iceland, Spain, Germany, Norway, Belgium to mention but a few.

Also, United Nations Development Programme (UNEP) released a report on why it pays to go green, ahead of World Environment Day (WED) 2022. WED will be celebrated on 5th June, 2022.

WED is celebrated annually as a result of United Nations’ conference on human environment. World Environment Day will be 50 years in existence by Sunday, 5th June 2022 since its inception in 1972.

United Nations Conference on Human Environment placed environmental issues at the forefront. It adopted 26 principles for better management of human environment and several solutions.

According to the report on green discovery, UNDP states that “A green recovery must result in transformative change, where socioeconomic and environmental systems interact to combat the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution without trade-offs.
