The Government of Ghana has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the Sahel, following the deadly terrorist attacks carried out in Mali on April 25, 2026, Prime Business Africa reports.
In a statement issued by Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday from Accra, authorities confirmed that the coordinated assaults targeted several military installations, including locations in the capital, Bamako. The attacks reportedly led to the death of Mali’s Minister of Defence, Sadio Camara, alongside military personnel and civilians.

Ghana extended its condolences to the Malian government and people, describing the development as tragic and reiterating the need for a united front against violent extremism.
“Violent extremism must have no place in our world, and we must step up collective efforts to end this horror,” the statement said.
In response to the deteriorating security conditions, the government issued a travel advisory to Ghanaian nationals residing in Mali, urging them to exercise heightened caution and limit non-essential movements. Citizens were also advised to maintain regular contact with the Ghanaian Embassy in Bamako.

Additionally, Ghanaian traders and transport operators who ply routes into Mali for commercial activities have been directed to suspend travel until further notice.
Authorities noted that discussions are ongoing with Malian officials to assess the situation and determine when cross-border trading can safely resume.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad, while pledging continued cooperation with Malian authorities as efforts intensify to stabilise the region.
