UI Appoints Seyi Makinde as Ambassador Extraordinaire Ahead of 75th Anniversary

The University of Ibadan (UI) has appointed the Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde, as Ambassador Extraordinaire of the institution, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the university’s development and his commitment to the state’s progress.

This recognition highlights the strong bond between the university and the Oyo State government, underscoring their shared commitment to the advancement of education and the overall development of the state.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Kayode Adebowale, led a delegation of university management and members of the anniversary committee to present Governor Makinde with a plaque and a garland of honor.

In his speech, Professor Adebowale commended the governor for his unwavering support of the university, even before assuming office as the state’s governor.

Governor Makinde expressed his gratitude for the prestigious honor, emphasizing the close and mutually beneficial relationship between his administration and the University of Ibadan. He stated, “It is a very close family. Over the years, the University of Ibadan has always been there with the resources to help the state.”

Acknowledging the wealth of talent within the institution, Governor Makinde pledged to continue collaborating with the university to enhance the development of Oyo State. He added, “We will continue to come and knock on the door of UI to support the state.”

Furthermore, Governor Makinde announced his administration’s plans to reconstruct the Orogun-Ajibode-Sasa Junction and undertake improvements at the frontage of the University of Ibadan, aiming to provide a better environment for the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebowale, praised Governor Makinde’s leadership and policies, describing his reelection as a testament to his outstanding performance and humane policies during his first term. He expressed hope that the governor’s second term would be even more impactful.

The University of Ibadan delegation also included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of administration, Professor E. O. Ayoola; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships, Professor Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose; and the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ladoke Akintola University, Professor Ayodeji Omole, among others.

The appointment of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde as Ambassador Extraordinaire comes as the University of Ibadan prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s history.
