The governors during the Southeast Governors Forum meeting held on Tuesday at Enugu, declared their intention to stop the sit-at-home order in the region.

Rising from the meeting, the governors issued an eight-point communiqué where they also resolved to ensure that Ebube Agu, the regional security outfit launched in April, is fully setup in all the five states in the region before the end of 2021 to provide adequate security.

Different states in the region have been under attacks leading to killings and destruction of properties, coupled with the sit-at-home exercise ordered by IPOB.

According to the governors, the sit-at-home order is issued by IPOB members who are mostly in the diaspora who do not know how it is affecting the economy and people in the region.

Part of the communiqué reads, “The governors and leaders of the Southeast condemn killings in the region and have agreed to join hands with security agencies to stop the trend.

“The meeting agreed that the South-East Ebube Agu security outfit be launched in all the Southeast States and laws passed in various Southeast States before the end of 2021.

“In view of the information that even IPOB had cancelled the sit-at-home, the meeting resolved that governors and all people of the South-East do everything within the law to ensure that there is no further sit-at-home in the South-East and that people are allowed to freely move about in the zone.”

The forum also talked about gubernatorial election coming up in Anambra on November 6 2021, promising to support the state and also urged security agencies to provide adequate security for a hitch-free and peaceful election.
