The Hope Uzodimma-led Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has denied reports alleging that the Imo State governor was removed as chairman of the body following an extraordinary meeting of governors in Abuja.
The controversy erupted hours after Uzodimma spoke on behalf of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms on Thursday in Abuja.
According to reports circulating late Thursday, about 20 APC governors allegedly met at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, where a decision was reportedly reached to remove Uzodimma as chairman of the forum.

The reports further claimed that governors from Ogun, Bayelsa, Enugu, and several other states attended the high-level meeting, and that a new chairman of the forum could be announced soon.
However, the Progressive Governors Forum swiftly dismissed the claims.
In a statement issued Thursday night, the Director-General of the forum, Folorunso Aluko, described the report as “false and misleading,” insisting that no such meeting was held and that no resolution was passed to remove Uzodimma.
“No meeting of the forum was held at which any such decision was taken. The PGF Secretariat has no record of, and is not aware of, any resolution removing Senator Hope Uzodimma,” Aluko said.
He added that Uzodimma remains chairman of the forum and urged party faithful and members of the media to disregard the reports.
“The forum remains united, focused, and committed. Members of the party faithful and the media are therefore advised to disregard the said report in its entirety,” the statement added.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency, the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), nor any of the governors allegedly involved in the meeting had officially confirmed the reported removal of Uzodimma as chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.
Uzodimma, who became chairman of the PGF in May 2023, succeeded former Kebbi State governor, Atiku Bagudu. The forum serves as the umbrella body for governors elected on the platform of the ruling APC.
