Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Yusuf Jamoh has been selected as one of those to receive national honours award.

A letter titled “2022 National Honours Award Letter” dated 19 September, 2022, from the office of the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, sent to Dr Jamoh, indicated that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the conferment of National Honour on him to the rank of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).

The letter signed by the Honourable Minister, Senator George Akume, indicated that the investiture ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 11th October at 9:00 am at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja.

Commenting on the award, the apparently elated Jamoh wrote on his official Twitter handle to express his gratitude for being considered for such coveted honour and thanked Almighty Allah for making him rise to position of NIMASA DG.

“Words cannot express how humbled I feel to be so considered for the National Honour as an Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR). When I began my maritime journey 30 years ago, little did I know that I would be so favoured by Almighty Allah to rise to the position of DG of NIMASA,” Dr. Jamoh tweeted.

Jamoh has headed NIMASA for two years since his appointment on 10th March, 2020. Until this appointment, he was the Executive Director, Finance and Administration in NIMASA. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Director in charge of Training and Development in NIMASA.

The DG who has a PhD in Logistics and Transport Management from the University of Port Harcourt, is the current President of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA).

The Nigeria National honours are awards given to the citizens who have distinguised themselves in their various areas of endeavours and made significant contributions to national development. The honour is therefore given to the people to show them that the nation greatly cherishes their contributions and achievements and also to encourage other citizens to imbibe them and do more excellent works for their communities and the nation generally.
