Nigerian Stock Market Down By N150.24bn, PZ Cussons, Chams Among Losers

Shareholders of PZ Cussons, Chams, and others on the decliners table recorded N150.24 billion combined loss at the close of stock market trading on Tuesday, July 1.

This contributed to the stock market capitalisation decreasing by 0.21 percet to N75.80 trillion, from N75.95 trillion reported on Monday, June 30.

The decline reflected in the all-share index (ASI), which dropped by 254.53 basis points from 119,995.76 ASI to 119,741.23 ASI.

Equity traders closed activities with 527.07 million shares exchanged in 21,546 deals, valued at N11.27 billion, against the 2.03 billion shares traded in 25,172 deals, worth N44.33 billion, the previous day.

Top five gainers

  • RT Briscoe’s share price increased by N0.25 kobo, to rise from N2.50 kobo to N2.75 kobo per share.
  • Honeywell Flour’s share value grew by N2.15 kobo, from N21.50 kobo to N23.65 kobo per share.
  • McNichols ended trading at N2.53 kobo per share, from N2.30 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.23 kobo.
  • Mutual Benefit gained N0.11 kobo to end trading at N1.21 kobo, having opened with N1.10 kobo.
  • Lasaco’s share value was up by N0.27 kobo, after closing at N2.98 kobo from N2.71 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • UPL’s share price depreciated by N0.56 kobo, dwindling from N5.60 kobo to N5.04 per share.
  • SCOA recorded a N0.53 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N4.86 kobo after opening with N5.39 kobo per share.
  • Thomas Wyatt lost N0.18 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N1.70 kobo from N1.88 kobo per share.
  • PZ reported a decline of N3 from the previous day’s share price of N38 to end trading at N35 kobo per share.
  • Chams recorded a N0.15 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N2.20 kobo after opening with N2.35 kobo per share.
