The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for aspirants seeking elective offices ahead of the 2026 elections, Prime Business Africa reports.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC announced that the deadline, initially scheduled to close at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, has now been extended to 12:00 midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

According to the statement, the extension applies to aspirants contesting for seats in the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and Governorship positions.
The party, however, clarified that the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for the Office of the President has officially closed.
The NDC further disclosed that screening of aspirants who have purchased and completed the forms will commence on Tuesday, May 19, and end on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
It added that the collection and return of Nomination Forms for aspirants who successfully pass the screening process will begin on Wednesday, May 20, and close on Tuesday, May 26.
The party urged all aspirants to strictly comply with the new deadlines, stressing that no further extension would be granted after the closing date.

As part of the screening requirements, aspirants are expected to appear at designated screening and pre-qualification venues nationwide with educational certificates, birth certificates or declarations of age, four recent passport photographs, copies of voter identification cards, NDC membership cards, and curriculum vitae.
The statement noted that all documents submitted to the Screening Committee must be provided in six copies each.
The party also stated that screening would be based on several criteria, including the wishes of the electorate, local peculiarities, the capacity and competence of aspirants, as well as character assessment.
In addition, the Screening Committee was directed to take into consideration the party’s affirmative action policy for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities.
The NDC also encouraged aspirants to pursue consensus-building arrangements, noting that only cleared aspirants would be eligible to purchase Nomination Forms.
