Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the deployment of Commissioners of Police (CPs) to state commands and strategic formations across the country as part of efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness and advance reforms within the nation’s police force.
The reshuffle, approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC) following the IGP’s recommendations, is intended to reinforce leadership across key policing jurisdictions, improve intelligence-led operations, and enhance public service delivery in Africa’s most populous country.

Under the new postings, CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo has been deployed to Abia State, while CP Ayodeji Faniyan takes charge of the Plateau State Command. CP Saka Adewale Ajao will head the Bayelsa State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue has been posted to Cross River State, and CP Nanna Oji Ama assumes leadership of the Anambra State Command.
Other state command appointments include CP Patrick Daaor to Edo State, CP Tani Murtala to Jigawa State, and CP Samuel Erale to Delta State.
Beyond the state commands, the IGP approved the deployment of senior officers to strategic departments and specialised units at the Force Headquarters, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), the Force Intelligence Department (FID), and other police institutions.
Among the appointments are CP Yemi John Oyeniyi as Commissioner of Police in charge of Intelligence and Training at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja; CP Charles Ezekwesiri Dike to oversee INTERPOL operations at the FCID in Abuja; CP Aina Adesola to the Department of Finance and Administration at the Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters; and CP Uduak Ita Otu to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the FCID Annex in Lagos.
Others include CP Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf to General Investigation at the FCID, Abuja; CP Taiwo A. Adedeji to the Counter Terrorism Unit at the Force Headquarters; CP Ajayi Oluyemi to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at the FCID, Abuja; CP Bolanle Aremu to the Department of Finance and Administration at the Force Headquarters; CP Ibrahim Lukunche Usman to the Inspectorate Department of Training and Development; and CP Mohammed Hassan Ahmed as Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College in Jos.
The remaining deployments include CP Rita Oyintare Oki to the Department of Finance and Administration at the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos; CP Ibrahim Umar D. Zungura as Commissioner of Police (Administration), FCID Annex, Kaduna; CP Nelson Nwamana to Training and Courses at the Police Academy in Kano; CP Akingbade C. Adeyinka as Commissioner of Police (Administration), Force Intelligence Department, Abuja; CP Iya Umar Mohammed to the Training Department at the Force Headquarters; CP Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu to the Anti-Fraud Section of the FCID Annex in Kaduna; CP Mohammed Yakubu to the Welfare Department at the Force Headquarters; and CP Danbaba Mohammed Labbo as Commissioner of Police (Administration), FCID Annex in Gombe.

Disu directed the newly deployed officers to strengthen intelligence-led policing, improve operational effectiveness, promote professionalism, and deepen community engagement in line with the Force’s ongoing reform agenda.
He also urged them to remain committed to protecting lives and property while upholding the highest standards of discipline, accountability, and public service.
The latest reshuffle comes as Nigeria continues efforts to modernise its policing system, improve internal capacity, and bolster security in response to evolving threats ranging from terrorism and banditry to organised crime and human trafficking. The police said the strategic deployments are part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and delivering more effective policing services nationwide.
