Fresh Allegations Emerge as Military Police Probe Killing of NYSC Member in Abuja

April 30, 2026

New details have surfaced in the ongoing investigation into the killing of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Abdulsamad Jamiu, as the family disclosed that a military police unit has commenced a formal probe into the incident, Prime Business Africa reports.

In an update issued on April 29, the family said the investigative team deployed by the Nigerian Army has interrogated key witnesses, including the deceased’s sister, parents, neighbours, and members of the local vigilante group.

According to the family, the probe has uncovered what it described as “deeply disturbing” revelations from vigilante members who were present at the scene.

The vigilantes allegedly told investigators that, after being directed by soldiers to clean up bloodstains, they were further instructed to bury human remains believed to be parts of the victim’s skull in the backyard of the family’s residence.

The family said the vigilantes subsequently led investigators to the location where the remains were reportedly interred.

Describing the development as shocking, the family alleged that the remains were buried without their knowledge or consent, raising further concerns about the handling of the scene following the incident.

The military police team, according to the family, has assured them that the investigation will be thorough and will continue until the circumstances surrounding the killing are fully established.

The case has drawn widespread public attention since the 24-year-old corps member was killed in the early hours of April 25 at his residence in Shagari Estate, Dei-Dei, Abuja.

While the Army initially maintained that Jamiu died after being caught in crossfire during a gun battle with suspected robbers, the family has consistently rejected that account, insisting he was shot inside his room.

In its latest statement, the family reiterated its demand for justice, while expressing appreciation to Nigerians, media organisations, and public figures who have amplified calls for accountability.

“The investigation is ongoing. Justice for Abdulsamad is non-negotiable,” the statement read.

As of press time, the Nigerian Army had yet to issue an official response to the latest allegations.
