Forum of Local Government and Primary school Pensioners (FLGPSP) in Enugu State, has appealed to religious leaders in the state to pray for them over failure of the state’s government to pay their pension arrears.

The Catholic and Anglican Bishops in Enugu State were reported to have received copies of statement from the Forum of Local Government and Primary school Pensioners (FLGPSP), seeking spiritual intervention in their unpaid pension arrears.

A statement signed by Messrs Patrick Agbo and George Ugwu, Coordinator and Secretary of FLGPSP, Nsukka zone, on Tuesday, disclosed that some members of the Forum were owed arrears of pension and gratuity since 2000 till date.

It also stated that, “Many members who started this struggle with us have died as a result of suffering and hardship.

“Those of us alive, our children can no longer go to school because we are unable to pay their school fees.

“Our family members now treat us with disrespect because we can’t take care of our family responsibilities”.

The Forum through the letter however, urged the State Government to do the needful by paying them arrears of pension and gratuities as the pensioners have done all the necessary verifications.

They wondered why they were owed pensions and gratuities despite local governments’ remittance of their money to Local Government pension board in Enugu State.

“As at now we are owned 19 months of pension arrears and 16 years of gratuity,” the statement said.

The statement also expressed disappointment on the National President, Nigeria Union of Pensioners Comr. Godwin Abumisi, for describing the Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as labour friendly governor on June 30, 2022.

It said , “Abumisi is aware of our predicament in the state but feel unconcerned, we are telling him that God will fight our battle.”

“Primary school pensioners in the state see the national president action as unfortunate and man’s inhumanity to man,” the statement added.
