On Thursday, January 15, the market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), also known as the stock market, decreased to N106.32 trillion, from N106.78 trillion recorded on Wednesday.

This represents a N457.58 billion decline in the market capitalisation, as the all-share index (ASI) depreciated by 0.42 percent.

The ASI contracted from 166,771.95 index to 166,057.29 index, reflecting a decrease of 714.66 basis points.

The NGX also recorded 1.03 billion shares traded in 51,227 deals, valued at N31.59 billion, surpassing the 761.94 million shares equity traders exchanged in 55,751 deals, worth N29.85 billion.

Top five gainers

  • FGSUK2031S4’s share price increased by N10 to rise from N89.99 kobo to N100 per share.
  • Nestle’s share value grew by N195.80 kobo, from N1,958 to N2,153.80 kobo per share.
  • NCR ended trading at N116.90 kobo per share, from N106.30 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N10.60 kobo.
  • Jaiz Bank gained N0.74 kobo to end trading at N8.20 kobo, having opened with N7.46 kobo.
  • Morison’s share value was up by N0.51 kobo, after closing at N5.66 kobo from N5.15 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • McNichols’ share price depreciated by N0.73 kobo, dwindling from N7.31 kobo to N6.58 kobo per share.
  • Caverton recorded a N0.80 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N7.65 kobo after opening with N8.45 kobo per share.
  • Ikeja Hotel lost N3.65 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N35.05 from N38.70 kobo per share.
  • FTN Cocoa recorded a N0.73 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N7.05 after opening with N7.78 kobo per share.
  • Neimeth reported a decline of N0.90 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N10.10 kobo to end trading at N9.20 kobo per share.

Top five trading equities

  • Sovereign Insurance reported that 245.18 million shares valued at N798.45 million were traded on its floor.
  • Access Holding recorded 78.41 million shares valued at N1.8 billion.
  • Zenith Bank saw investors trade 72.43 million of its shares valued at N5.02 billion.
  • Jaiz Bank recorded 53.72 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N433.86 million.
  • Lasaco reported that traders exchanged 53.40 million shares valued at N135.07 million.
