N24bn Loan: Nigeria Trapped In A Vicious Cycle Of Debt – Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as well as the killing of several residents in Katsina State, accusing President Ahmed Tinubu of failing to provide effective leadership in addressing the country’s worsening insecurity.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the recent incidents as evidence that Nigeria was “bleeding under a government that has reduced leadership to post-tragedy press statements.”

The former vice president said he was particularly saddened by reports of the killing of one of the teachers abducted during the Ogbomoso incident, warning that the growing wave of violence across the country reflected what he termed a collapse of leadership at the highest level.

According to him, the Federal Government’s repeated condemnations and promises that perpetrators would face the “full wrath of the law” had become predictable and ineffective in the face of recurring attacks.

“At a time when armed criminals are abducting schoolchildren, slaughtering innocent citizens, and turning communities into graveyards, President Tinubu’s response remains the same tired ritual: condemn the killings, threaten that the perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law, and then wait for the next massacre,” the statement read.

Atiku further criticised what he described as the government’s reliance on “obituary statements” rather than proactive security measures, insisting that Nigerians deserved more than “performative outrage and ceremonial condolences.”

He also raised concerns over alleged attempts to suppress images and reports of the attacks, warning that any move to censor evidence of killings instead of preventing them amounted to “cruelty of the highest order.”

Atiku: Peace Deals with Bandits Favour Criminals, Not Victims

The former vice president said the attacks in Oyo and Katsina states were part of a broader national security crisis in which criminal groups now operated without fear of consequences.

He called for the immediate rescue of all abducted victims in Oyo State, stronger security operations in vulnerable communities, and a comprehensive overhaul of the country’s security architecture.
