Buhari Splashes National Honours On Anyaoku, Davido, Awele Elumelu, Duru, Owen, Oluremi Tinubu, 300 Others

Former commonwealth secretary-general, Emeka Anyaoku,
has been nominated for Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

According to the list released by the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, a total of 339 persons have been nominated by the federal government to receive 2023 national honours.

Anyaoku is the sole person nominated for the GCON award according to the list.

The incoming first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu will be confered with the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

Popular singer, David Adeleke known as Davido will be awarded the Officer Of the Order of the Niger (OON).

Co-Founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation, Dr Mrs Awele Elumelu, will be confered with Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).

Also, Nze Chidi Duru, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives (APC) will be honoured with Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

Nze Duru was selected for the honour in recognition of his work in pensions, fintech, and real estate sector in Nigeria.

Also, nominated for the OON award are President of Transcorp Group, Owen Omogiafo; Spokesperson for President Buhari, Garba Shehu; Spokesperson for the Vice President Osinbajo, Laolu Akande; Multi-award-winning filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, among others.

Victor Osimhen, who plays as a striker for Serie A club, Napoli and the Nigeria national team,
was nominated for Member of The Order of Federal Republic (MFR).
Osimhen’s goal earned Napoli its first Serie A title in 33 years.

Nigerian businessman and socialite, Terry Waya was listed in the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) cadre.

Former governors of Osun and Ogun, Bisi Akande and Segun Osoba respectively, are also billed to receive national awards. They will be confered with the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).

According to the publication, recipients of the 2023 national awards have all been directed to submit a soft copy of their citation or resume to the ministry on or before May 31, while they are to appear physically for the collection of their medals and certificates scheduled for June 1, 2023.
