The federal government through the Council of State led by President Muhammadu Buhari, had in April granted pardon to the convicts, an action that generated outcries across the country.

The Nigeria prison authority had insisted on not release the ex governors and others granted pardon until a correspondence from the Ministry of Justice authorising the release was issued to them.

Nyame was serving a 12 years’ imprisonment for diverting N1.64 billion during his tenure as governor of Taraba, while Dariye was serving a 10-years jail term for N1.126 billion fraud.
