The approval followed the Senate’s adoption of a motion commending President Bola Tinubu, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies for the successful rescue of the victims, who spent 56 days in captivity after they were abducted from two schools in Oriire LGA on May 15. The hostages regained their freedom on July 10 following an intelligence-led military operation.
Akpabio said the intervention reflects the Senate’s commitment to supporting the families of security personnel and civilians who paid the ultimate price in the service of the nation.
Lawmakers noted that the operation resulted in the safe rescue of the abductees, the neutralisation of several kidnappers and the arrest of eight suspected terrorists, describing the mission as a significant breakthrough in the country’s fight against insecurity.
