King Mswati III has commended Eswatini’s correctional service for its commitment to offender rehabilitation, institutional excellence and public service, describing correctional officers as key partners in promoting public safety and helping former inmates successfully reintegrate into society, Prime Business Africa reports.
The King made the remarks during the 18th Correctional Services Day celebrations held at the Correctional Services College in Matsapha, where the institution also marked 30 years of service to the southern African kingdom.

Addressing correctional officers, government officials and invited guests, King Mswati III praised the continued growth of His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) and its contribution to national development through rehabilitation-focused programmes and professional service delivery.
He noted that modern correctional systems should be judged not only by their ability to maintain security but also by their capacity to transform lives and reduce reoffending through effective rehabilitation.
“The success of our correctional system must be measured not only by security, but by our ability to rehabilitate and restore hope to those entrusted to our care,” the King said.
King Mswati III also applauded the institution for embracing innovation, strengthening rehabilitation initiatives and expanding skills-development programmes aimed at preparing offenders for productive lives after their release.
He described rehabilitation as a cornerstone of Eswatini’s justice system, saying it plays a crucial role in helping individuals become responsible citizens and contributors to the country’s social and economic development.
“Rehabilitation remains a cornerstone of our justice system, empowering individuals to become responsible citizens and contributors to national development,” he said.
The celebrations highlighted the correctional service’s efforts to uphold professionalism, discipline and excellence in service delivery, while also improving the welfare and working conditions of correctional officers.

The King further recognised the dedication of correctional personnel across the country, noting that their work remains essential to maintaining public safety, supporting the justice system and fostering social stability.
“I commend the men and women of His Majesty’s Correctional Services for their unwavering dedication, professionalism and commitment to serving the Kingdom,” he said.
He urged the institution to continue strengthening its operations and maintaining the values that underpin effective public service.
“Let us continue to strengthen our institutions and uphold the values of discipline, integrity and excellence in the service of emaSwati,” the monarch added.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment by the correctional service to expand rehabilitation programmes, uphold high standards of professionalism and contribute to Eswatini’s long-term development goals.
